Two stories about music AI that jumped out at me this week

This is the sticky, behind the scenes stuff that points to either the strength of the music community or the rot in our culture.

I'm now an Ableton Certified Trainer.

It's also been a really powerful reminder of how important it is to keep putting myself out there and that's perhaps the biggest takeaway I'd like to share with you today.
A comment from a video on vocal production that reads "What happened to the algorithm? How can this video be watched only 211 times in 1 day? Love your content though! Inspires me a lot lately..."

      Navigating YouTube's ever-shifting environment

I have caught myself overly focusing on what YouTube "wants" and not what I want to share.

          Performing electronic music

I distinctly remember being overwhelmed by the endless ways in which I could organize a live performance in Ableton Live.

            Releasing music without promoting it

I have a new song, Speaking, coming out March 6th and I have done/am doing/will probably continue to do next to no promotion for it. I want to talk about it today because maybe it'll help you also to just say fuck it and put your music out there anyway even if your capacity to market it is less than stellar for any reason.

I want to tell you today about what that could mean for you, should you be interested in supporting my work via that channel.

Music AI has been around a long time, it's just being sold to you differently now

What we call AI today is just machine learning with a marketing facelift to appear more sexy and dangerous.

Here's what a year of weekly YouTube uploads did for me

November marks one year of consistent, weekly YouTube uploads without fail. That's a huge milestone!

"I like to publish and move on."

That fact has been true in my creative life for some time now, but only with respect to certain areas. This newsletter is one of those areas. YouTube is another one of those areas. One area in which this hasn't been true, however, is music.

How to learn any DAW (Part 2) - Signal Flow

It isn't that you need to memorize signal flow for every single DAW. It's that you need to learn to think in terms of signal flow.

"I didn't know you write songs!" and other reflections on my birthday

I, like you and everybody else, have this image of who I am in my mind. The people in our lives can only see this image if we show it to them.
